Institute presentation
Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital is a national and international referral centre for patients with CHI. It is designated by the National Specialised Commissioning Group (NSCG) as a Centre of expertise for the diagnosis and management of patients with CHI. NSCG is a national government organisation in the UK responsible for the commissioning of specialised services that help to improve the lives of children and adults with very rare conditions. NSCG will ensure that specialised services are safe, effective, patient-centred and of high quality. Patients are referred from all over the world as well as the UK to the CHI Centre at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The CHI team at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital comprises of experts in the field of paediatric endocrinology and metabolism, pancreatic surgery (laparoscopic), dietetics, biochemists, highly trained specialised nurses, psychologists, speech and language experts, experts in radiology and nuclear medicine and geneticists. Patients admitted to the CHI centre at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital receive holistic high quality state of the art care and benefit from the latest advances in management. The aim of our service is to translate any new advances in research to patient care.
The Institute of Child Health/Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, University College London (UCL) will co-coordinate WP5 . Our main tasks within the project will be
- the clinical evaluation of imaging for CHI patients
- the development of optimized treatment
- Proof-of-principle and concept studies
- Provide CHI islets for PDT optimization from patients with congenital hyperinsulinism who undergo surgery.
