Institute presentation
The University of Lille (UL2) includes 24000 students, 1050 scientists and professors, 50 research laboratories and several institutes such as Institut Pasteur de Lille. UMR U859 is a multidisciplinary INSERM team including clinicians and cell biologists devoted to the clinical translation of innovative Biotherapies for diabetes. Scientific expertise of the team includes the production and functional evaluation of clinical grade human insulin secreting cells, relevant porcine and murine models for preclinical evaluation of biotherapies for diabetes, and clinical trials in islet transplantation and metabolic surgery. Main recent achievements were the clinical translation of non invasive imaging of transplanted beta cells with nuclear medicine, and the description an experimental mouse model for in vivo functional assessment and imaging of human islets. Lille University Hospital (CHRU of Lille) is also the tertiary referral centre for the diagnostic and treatment of pancreatic endocrine tumours in northern France (4 millions inhabitants).
